We wanted to convey to our audience a few specific emotions/feelings: discomfort, admiration, and also hope. We wanted a certain level of conviction to be felt in the reader, as they learn about the specifics of this very real, and pressing issue that is causing harm at every level of consumption. It is a fact that we are currently witnessing the massive overproduction and overconsumption of unsustainable clothing all over the world.

When deciding how to convey these emotions in photographs, I made a few decisions that were influential in our final result. I maintained a very cool, neutral toned color palette to represent environmental drives for this project.

Another detail that was extremely important to both me and Laura is that every article of clothing worn by our models & shown in these photos was obtained second-hand. This was one way we stayed true to our own message within our production.
With the spread designs, I knew I needed to keep it simple, but still bold and impactful. Keeping the same neutral color palette, to match the tone of the photographs, I organized text, photos, graphics, and illustrations in a strategic way so that our readers would have an idea about what they were reading before they even looked at the first paragraph.
